Step 2: Trading Courses Overview

Sports Trading Courses have been popular for many years as everyone wants to know what the magic touch is that the professionals have. Most of these courses focus on trading pre-race horse racing due to the enormous amount of opportunities and volume contained within these markets. Courses generally cost between £225-£425 and last one day.

There is one Football trading course I know of, with a Portuguese trader named Paolo Rebelo, but that’s held in Portugal and I don’t know anyone who’s been on it. (If you have and would live to review it then please contact me.)

Top Tips from My Experience

Having attended 3 of the courses below myself I can give you few top tips:

  • Wait until at least a few months into your trading journey before you attend one. There are great online tools and resources that you can use for 6-10 months (and will still be cheaper than a 1-day course) and will help give you a better idea whether trading is for you or not.
  • If you do decide to book a course then take notes! These courses are expensive – I’ve seen countless people say they went on them and then couldn’t remember half the information that was said by the time they got home.
  • Have a think through and note down any questions you want to ask. Get the answers you need help with.

Betfair Trading Software

All professional traders use software so when you’re in their course environment they will be showing you how to trade through their preferred software. You will need to familiarise yourself with how software works and the benefits it offers before you go otherwise you won’t have a clue what’s going on on the screen in front of you. This shouldn’t be an issue as there are 14-day free trials available for most software.

Find out more about this in our Software Overview, by clicking here.

You do not have to use the same software as the one used in the course you decide to go on as all software performs the functions that you will be shown, the only real difference is the interface.

Let’s get cracking on the course overviews.

Top Pick: Mug’s Game Horse Racing Workshop

  • Cost: £225
  • Venue/Location: Village Hotel, Coventry
  • Duration: 1 Day Course, 9:00am – 5:30pm
  • Host/Trader: Steve Howe (also known as Mug’s Game)
  • Website: www.itsamugsblog.co.uk/racing-workshops
  • Software Used: Mainly Gruss, sometimes Bet Angel
  • Course Handouts: 8gb USB filled with videos

Brief Overview: A pre-race horse racing course that gives you a defined strategy to go away and use. Run by a top guy who genuinely cares how your trading progresses after attending his course.

Short Review: This is the standout pick for a number of reasons:

  • Customer service, all done by Steve himself, is top notch
  • The course provides a strategy that anyone can use
  • Course handouts are great with tonnes of videos for you to review the strategy
  • Aftercare is superb with the option to join a mentorship group as an upgrade – this is an outstanding group to be in, not only for the communication with other traders, but the extra downloadable content available

Peter Webb’s Trading Masterclass, Bet Angel

  • Cost: £400
  • Venue/Location: Bet Angel HQ, Hook, Hampshire
  • Duration: 1 Day Course, 9:15am – 6:00pm
  • Host/Trader: Peter Webb (Professional trader and owner of Bet Angel)
  • Website: www.bettingexchangeacademy.com
  • Software Used: Bet Angel
  • Course Handouts: 334 page ‘Trading Bible’

Brief Overview: A course that covers range of sports it’s the one that most people seem to find out about first, however, it’s the course you should only go on months down the line when you’re making some progress with your trading. This is not for beginners.

Short Review: A great chance to pick at the brains of a trader who has made millions from trading Betfair, however, the lack of direction within the course itself means you’ll have to be prepared to ask the questions you want to know the answers to. Trading ‘Bible’ is less of a bible and more of a beginner’s guide to sports trading, in my opinion.

Brief Overview: A course day dedicated to trading the pre-race horse racing markets, one of Bet Angel’s professional traders will take you through a range of aspects and market dynamics that professional traders look at when trading the pre-race markets.

Short Review: A course with an insane amount of useful information (make sure to take notes!) however, it will not provide you with a strategy that you can take away and try executing. Again, not for newbies as it will likely confuse/convolute the learning process for you.
